I teach oil painting classes Tuesday and Wednesday evenings in my Oakland studio from 7 PM to 10:30 PM. These classes are appropriate for beginners and advanced students. We focus on the relationship of contemporary color theory and apply the science of visual perception to the depiction of light and space.
Classes cost $115 a month for once a week and $195 a month for twice a week. Paint, solvent and a live model ( about half the time) are included in the price.
You are welcome to observe part of a class. Call me at (510) 836 – 1681.

Two Weeks in Tuscany: August 11-25, 2012
In Tuscany August 11 – 25, 2012 we stay in a farmhouse situated amid olive groves and vineyards twenty minutes south of Florence. There are countless painting subjects from the windows and within a short walk of the farmhouse. Traditional Tuscan dinners prepared by our young hosts will showcase the farm’s exceptional organic wine and olive oil.
There will be day long excursions into Florence to visit key artistic sites and to eat. I lived in Florence for two years in the Sixties. As Head of Outdoor Restoration for the Uffizi Gallery I helped clean up after the disastrous flood of 1966. Because of this experience I am qualified to reveal a Florence inaccessible to the casual tourist.

Early October- two weeks, 2012
We will fly together to Morelia where our hosts Kevin Quigley and Arminda Flores pick us up in a van and drive us to their ranch in the midst of the indigenous countryside on Lake Patzcuaro in Michoacan. Heartland of the ancient Purepucha empire, the lake is surrounded by pyramids and a vibrant indigenous culture. Craftspeople, farmers, colonial towns and the gorgeous countryside are our subjects. Arminda Flores is a gourmet, Mexican cook.
We will spend time in the nearby colonial town of Patzcuaro that climbs the hillside above the Lake. This town contains some of the finest early colonial architecture in Mexico and a strong indigenous community. Members of Arminda’s extended family will pose for us in traditional dress.
