OAKLAND: I teach oil painting classes Tuesday evenings in my Oakland studio from 7 PM to 10:30 PM. These classes are appropriate for beginners and advanced students. Outdoor Painting Classes in Sicily, Italy : May 4 - May 17, 2019

(These dates could change)

For Beginners* and Advanced Students. (One or two non-painters also welcome)

Deadline for enrollment: September 1, 2018

We will stay one week in an 'attico' in Catania or in a nearby villa. From there we will visit Taormina, Aetna and Siracusa - among other locations.

I will be providing easels and oil paint and instruction for those who want to paint on this trip.

Our second week we will stay in a hotel in Vittoria in Ragusa province. We will each have a private room. Couples will have a matrimonial suite. Apart from painting in Vittoria, which is not very touristy, we would paint and explore some hilltop towns in the region. as well as the city of Ragusa, and the ancient Greek city of Agrigento.

On our day trips, of which there will be four over the two weeks, we will pause for a couple of hours to do watercolors.

Typically, I paint along with the group for four or five hours, taking regular breaks to give instruction, for those who desire it . The rest of the day, people may continue painting or go off exploring either all together or in smaller groups.

The first portion of the video, below, covers some of the sites we will visit in our workshop:

Outdoor Painting Classes around Lake Patzcuaro in Michoacan, Mexico

For Beginners* and Advanced Students (one or two non painters also welcome)

December 2- December 16, 2019

Our hosts Kevin Quigley and Arminda Flores pick us up in a van in either Morelia or Patzcuaro, depending on our flight route, and drive us to their ranch in the midst of the indigenous countryside on Lake Patzcuaro in Michoacan. Heartland of the ancient Purepucha empire, the lake is surrounded by pyramids and a vibrant indigenous culture. Craftspeople, farmers, colonial towns and the gorgeous countryside are our subjects.  Arminda Flores is a gourmet, Mexican cook.

We will spend time in the nearby colonial town of Patzcuaro that climbs the hillside above the Lake. This town contains some of the finest early colonial architecture in Mexico and a strong indigenous community. Members of Arminda's extended family will pose for us in traditional dress.

See the video of the last trip below:

COST: $ 2500. This cost includes airfare up to $ 500 (from San Francisco, CA - students arriving from elsewhere will receive a reduction equivalent to the current price.) transportation, meals, accommodations, and all painting supplies except canvases.
