This colorful video recounts a more than two month painting trip through the ancient heart of Italy. It explores celebrated sites as well as lesser known locations, and makes reference to some troubling contemporary issues. We recommend that you set aside an hour to enjoy this video on a large screen. Part 1 (13 minutes ) documents a painting workshop in eastern Sicily that Anthony Holdsworth led the first two seeks of his journey. Part 2 ( 35 minutes) begins when painter, Beryl Landau, joins Anthony in Catania. They travel slowly north by train and bus, lingering in the south. Some highlights include Matera (Basilicata) the most ancient inhabited site in Europe, Ostuni (Puglia) who's two thousand year old olive trees a threatened by biotech and L'Aquila (Abruzzo) still recovering from a catastrophic earthquake a decade ago. The video concludes in Lugo (Emilia-Romagna) with a dawn concert in the main piazza and a birthday celebration. Anthony Holdsworth served as Head of Outdoor Restoration for the Uffizi Gallery for a year and a half after the biblical flood of 1966. He and Beryl Landau return to the Bel Paese every few years to travel and paint. This was their longest and most ambitious journey. They wish to thank "Duo Pizzicato", "Mr. and Mrs. Cello" and Matteo Penazzi for the generous contribution of their music.
